What does Judges 15:5 mean?
Samson, angry at the Philistines for betraying him, devised a brutal act of revenge: he caught foxes, tied torches to their tails, and sent them running through the grain fields during harvest time. The fires spread through both the cut grain waiting to be gathered and the crops still standing in the fields, destroying the olive groves as well. This wasn't just about one man's anger, though, it was economic warfare that would have devastated an entire region's livelihood for months to come. It's a stark reminder of how revenge doesn't stay small or contained, but ripples outward to harm many people, and often says more about the heart of the one seeking revenge than it does about justice.
