Joshua 7:12
“Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.”
What does Joshua 7:12 mean?
When God tells Joshua that He won't be with Israel anymore, it's because someone in the community has taken what was supposed to be destroyed after the battle of Jericho. This wasn't just about breaking a rule, it was about one person's disobedience affecting the whole community's ability to stand firm against enemies. The hard truth here is that sin creates distance between us and God, and that distance weakens us in real ways. God isn't being arbitrary or punishing everyone for one person's actions out of spite, rather He's describing how things actually work: when we harbor what we know we should release, we lose our spiritual footing.
