What does Joshua 21:3 mean?

After the Israelites conquered the promised land, it had to be divided among the tribes. The Levites were set apart for religious duties and didn't receive a territory like the other tribes did, so instead they were given specific cities scattered throughout the land where they could live and work. This verse shows the people actually following through on God's instruction to provide for the Levites, making sure they had homes and the surrounding pastureland their families and livestock needed. It's a picture of a community taking care of those who serve in spiritual roles, recognizing that their calling required a different kind of support than others received.
