What does Joshua 21:22 mean?
This verse lists cities that were given to the Levites, who served as priests and temple workers in ancient Israel. Since the Levites didn't have their own territory like the other tribes, they were instead distributed throughout the land in specific towns so they could serve people across the whole nation. These particular cities, Kibzaim and Beth Horon, were located in the territory that belonged to the tribe of Ephraim, and the "suburbs" refer to the grazing lands surrounding each city that the Levites could use for their livestock.
