What does Joshua 2:9 mean?
Rahab, a woman living in the enemy city of Jericho, is speaking to Israelite spies who've come to scout the land. She's telling them something remarkable: she already knows their God is real and powerful, and that her own people are terrified of what's coming. This isn't just fear of a military threat, but spiritual fear, a deep sense that God himself is at work. What's beautiful here is that Rahab, an outsider with no connection to Israel's faith, has somehow come to believe in Yahweh's power before Israel has even entered the land. She sees what's happening and recognizes it as the work of God. Her words remind us that faith doesn't always look the way we expect it to, and that God's reality can break through to people in surprising ways, even across enemy lines.
