Joshua 19:4

What does Joshua 19:4 mean?
This brief verse lists three towns given to the tribe of Simeon in the southern part of Canaan. These place names appear in the middle of Joshua's account of how the promised land was divided among the twelve tribes after their conquest. Simeon received a smaller territory that was actually nested within Judah's larger portion, and these settlements helped establish their community's identity and boundaries. While the names themselves might seem like just geography, they represent God's faithfulness in making good on his ancient promise to give the Israelites a homeland where each family could settle and flourish.
