What does Joshua 16:9 mean?
When the Israelites divided the promised land among the tribes, the territory didn't always come in one neat piece. Ephraim received several cities that were actually surrounded by or scattered throughout Manasseh's region, which created a kind of patchwork inheritance. This verse is simply documenting that arrangement, making clear that Ephraim's full allocation included both their main territory and these separate towns embedded within their neighbor's land.
