What does Joshua 16:10 mean?
When the Israelites were supposed to fully occupy the land God promised them, the tribe of Ephraim didn't complete the job, leaving the Canaanites in Gezer. Rather than removing them entirely, they made them work as servants and laborers. The phrase "to this day" suggests this was written later, noting that this incomplete obedience had lasting consequences that persisted for generations. This moment reveals something honest about human nature: we often settle for partial obedience or the easier path rather than fully following through on what we're called to do. Sometimes we convince ourselves that a compromise solution is "good enough," without realizing it may create problems that ripple forward.
