Joshua 10:8
“Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.””
What does Joshua 10:8 mean?
God speaks these words to Joshua right before a crucial battle, when five kings have joined forces against him and his army. It's a reassurance that might sound like empty encouragement, except Joshua had already seen God work—the walls of Jericho had fallen, and God had proven faithful before. When God says "I have delivered them into your hands," He's speaking as though it's already done, not as a distant promise. This kind of confidence isn't about the size of Joshua's army or his military strategy; it's rooted in the reality of God's power and commitment. For anyone facing something that feels overwhelming, the comfort here is simple: fear and trust pull in opposite directions, and sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is choose to believe we're not facing our battles alone.
