Joshua 10:6
“The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.””
What does Joshua 10:6 mean?
The people of Gibeon were in desperate trouble. They had made a peace treaty with Joshua and the Israelites, and now they were surrounded by powerful enemies who wanted to destroy them. Their cry for help is raw and urgent, showing how completely they were counting on Joshua to keep his word. This moment reveals something important about loyalty and commitment. Joshua had promised to protect Gibeon, and they held him to that promise when everything fell apart. When we make commitments to others, especially the vulnerable, our willingness to show up when it's inconvenient matters deeply. Joshua's response to this plea (which you can read in the verses that follow) shows what it looks like to honor a covenant even when the cost is high.
