Joshua 1:3
“I have given you every place that the sole of your foot will tread on, as I told Moses.”
What does Joshua 1:3 mean?
God is making a sweeping promise to Joshua as he takes over leadership from Moses: the land ahead belongs to him and his people, not because they'll conquer it through their own strength, but because God has already claimed it for them. This echoes what God promised Moses decades earlier, so Joshua can trust that what lies before him isn't uncertain or up for grabs. The promise is beautifully specific too—"every place that the sole of your foot will tread on" means God's gift extends exactly as far as their faithfulness and obedience will take them. It's both an encouragement for the journey ahead and a reminder that their next steps matter because they're stepping into something already prepared and promised.
