Joshua 1:2
““Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go across this Jordan, you, and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, even to the children of Israel.”
What does Joshua 1:2 mean?
God is commissioning Joshua to lead the Israelites forward after Moses has died. The statement isn't harsh or dismissive of Moses, but rather a clear pivot: the old chapter has closed, and God is calling Joshua to step into the role he's been prepared for. Notice that God frames this as a command ("arise, go") paired with a promise ("the land which I am giving to them"), making it clear that Joshua's job is to move forward in faith, and God's provision is already guaranteed. This speaks to many of us who've had to let go of a season, a leader, or a way of doing things we trusted. God acknowledges what was, honors it, and then calls us to take the next step, even when it feels uncertain. The implication is that Joshua isn't meant to replicate Moses—he's meant to be himself and trust that God will lead through him in a different way.
