Joshua 1:15

until Yahweh has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which Yahweh your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.’”

What does Joshua 1:15 mean?

Joshua and the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh had made a commitment to fight alongside their brothers to conquer the promised land, even though their own inheritance was already settled east of the Jordan River. This verse reminds them that their work isn't done until everyone has reached safety and security in their new home. It's a beautiful picture of solidarity, where those who are already settled don't rest while others are still struggling and vulnerable. The promise here is that once the conquest is complete and all the tribes are secure, these eastern tribes can return to their own land with a clear conscience, knowing they've kept their word and honored their family bonds.
