What does Joshua 1:12 mean?

Joshua is about to give instructions to the tribes whose land lay east of the Jordan River. These groups, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half of Manasseh, had already received their territory from Moses, but they'd committed to helping the other Israelite tribes conquer the land west of the Jordan before settling down themselves. What follows in the next verses shows Joshua holding them to that promise, reminding them of their responsibility to their brothers and sisters. It's a moment that speaks to how community matters, especially when people have made commitments to one another during difficult times.
