What does Jonah 3:5 mean?
When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah's warning that their city would be destroyed, something remarkable happened: they actually believed him and took it seriously. Their response wasn't halfhearted or skeptical, but immediate and thorough, involving everyone from the most powerful leaders down to the humblest citizens. They fasted (went without food) and wore rough sackcloth as outward signs of genuine sorrow for how they'd been living, showing that their change of heart was real and not just words.
