John 9:3
“Jesus answered, “Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.”
What does John 9:3 mean?
When the disciples ask Jesus why a man was born blind, they're assuming someone must be morally responsible for it. Jesus gently corrects that assumption. He's saying that not every hardship happens because of wrongdoing—sometimes difficult circumstances exist as an opportunity for God's healing power to become visible and real in someone's life. This doesn't mean suffering is good or that God causes blindness to show off. Rather, Jesus is redirecting attention away from blame and toward possibility. Whatever this man has endured, it's now becoming the very place where divine compassion and restoration will be demonstrated. The point is that God can meet us in our struggles and transform them into something that reveals his character to others around us, and often to ourselves as well.
