John 9:21

but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

What does John 9:21 mean?

The parents of a man born blind are being questioned by religious authorities about their son's miraculous healing. Instead of giving a direct answer, they deflect by saying he's an adult and can speak for himself, partly out of fear of being expelled from the synagogue if they openly credit Jesus. There's something quietly honest in their response. They're acknowledging a limit to what they can explain—they witnessed the transformation but not necessarily how it happened. Sometimes the most authentic thing we can do is admit what we don't know while pointing others toward the person who lived through the experience. The parents' caution reminds us that growth and healing often move at their own pace, and that people deserve the chance to tell their own stories rather than have others speak for them.
