“Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.”
What does John 8:42 mean?
Jesus is telling people who've rejected him that their claim to belong to God doesn't match their actions. If they truly knew God as their father, he's saying, they would recognize and love him, because everything about who he is comes directly from God.
