“They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.””
What does John 7:52 mean?
The Pharisees are dismissing Nicodemus here because he's defending Jesus, and they're using geography as a weapon. They're basically saying, "Don't you know? Nothing good comes from Galilee, and certainly not prophets." It's a form of prejudice rooted in regional pride—Jerusalem was the religious center, and the northern region of Galilee was considered less important and less educated by the elite. What makes this moment interesting is that the Pharisees are actually wrong on two counts. First, the prophet Jonah was from Galilee. More importantly, their dismissal of an entire region reveals how our biases can blind us to what's right in front of us. They're so caught up in where someone is from that they can't see who that person actually is. It's a reminder that closed minds often disguise themselves as knowledge.
