What does John 7:4 mean?

Jesus's brothers are challenging him here, essentially saying, "If you're really doing miracles, why keep it quiet? Show yourself to everyone." They're expressing a very human logic: if you have power or a message, use it publicly to build your reputation and following. But this moment reveals something important about Jesus's mission and timing. He wasn't driven by the need for validation or a big platform. His work had its own pace and purpose that didn't depend on public applause or his family's approval. Sometimes the most meaningful things we do happen quietly, in small circles, through faithful presence rather than grand announcements. The verse reminds us that doing good work and doing it to be seen are two entirely different callings.
