John 7:3
“His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.”
What does John 7:3 mean?
Jesus's own brothers are urging him to go public with his miracles, essentially telling him to stop hiding in Galilee and take his ministry to Jerusalem where it matters. They're speaking like practical family members who see his gifts and think he should use them in a bigger arena, but there's a catch: John adds right after this that even his brothers didn't believe in him yet. So while their advice sounds reasonable on the surface, it's really a kind of skeptical challenge, as if to say, "If you can really do these things, prove it where everyone important can witness them." It's a reminder that sometimes the closest people to us can misunderstand our calling, and that doing God's work isn't about seeking the biggest platform or winning approval from those around us.
