John 6:58

This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

What does John 6:58 mean?

Jesus is drawing a contrast between the manna that sustained the Israelites in the wilderness and himself as spiritual bread. The manna kept people alive physically, but they eventually died anyway, leaving them incomplete. When Jesus speaks of eating this bread, he means trusting in him and accepting his life and teaching into our deepest selves, which leads to eternal life, not just temporary physical survival. It's an invitation to a kind of nourishment that transforms us from the inside out and connects us to something that lasts beyond our earthly years.
