John 6:57
“As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.”
What does John 6:57 mean?
Jesus is drawing a parallel between his own relationship with God and the relationship he offers us. Just as Jesus' life comes entirely from God the Father, our spiritual life can come from Jesus himself—through trusting him, following him, and letting his teachings nourish our souls. The image of "feeding on" him isn't about anything physical, but about drawing sustenance from him the way we depend on food to live. What Jesus promises is that this kind of deep connection with him becomes our source of real, lasting life, not just existence but the kind of wholeness and meaning that comes from knowing God.
