John 6:44
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.”
What does John 6:44 mean?
Jesus is saying that coming to him isn't simply a matter of human willpower or decision alone. There's something deeper happening, a divine drawing or invitation from God the Father that makes it possible for us to turn toward Jesus in the first place. This doesn't mean we're passive, but rather that our ability to respond to God is itself a gift from God. The promise at the end anchors this in hope: those who are drawn to Jesus and respond to that drawing will be raised to life in the end times. So this verse isn't meant to discourage us, but to remind us that our faith is ultimately held and sustained by God's faithfulness, not by our own strength.
