What does John 6:17 mean?

The disciples have set out across the Sea of Galilee without Jesus, who had gone up a mountain to pray after the crowd tried to make him king. As evening falls and darkness settles over the water, there's a sense of being alone, of going forward without the presence they've come to rely on. It's a moment many of us recognize: that feeling when you're moving through life's difficulties and God seems distant or absent. The verse doesn't try to minimize that experience but simply names it honestly, setting the stage for what happens next when Jesus shows up in an unexpected way.
