John 5:45
““Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.”
What does John 5:45 mean?
Jesus is telling his listeners something surprising here: he won't be the one bringing charges against them to God. Instead, their own hope rests on Moses and the law that Moses gave them, and that very law will stand as a witness against them. It's a gentle way of saying that if they truly listened to and understood what Moses taught, they would recognize Jesus for who he is. The accusation they face isn't coming from Jesus out of anger, but rather from their failure to grasp the scriptures they claim to trust. There's both kindness and urgency in this: Jesus is pointing them toward the truth they already have access to, rather than condemning them himself.
