John 5:21
“For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.”
What does John 5:21 mean?
Jesus is claiming here that he has the same power as God the Father: the ability to give life itself. This wasn't a small claim in his culture, where raising the dead was understood as God's exclusive divine work. He's saying that just as the Father can restore life to those who have died, the Son can do the same and can give spiritual life to anyone he chooses.
