John 4:31
“In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.””
What does John 4:31 mean?
The disciples are concerned because Jesus has been talking with a Samaritan woman at the well while they were away getting food, and he seems tired and hungry. They come back and gently press him to eat something, showing the kind of practical care friends show each other during long, demanding days. Jesus will use this moment to teach them something deeper about spiritual nourishment, but first we see them simply doing what people do when they love someone: they notice he needs care and they offer it. There's something beautiful in that ordinary impulse to feed someone you're traveling with.
