What does John 4:21 mean?

Jesus is speaking to a Samaritan woman at a well, and they've just been discussing where people should worship (Samaritans believed Mount Gerizim was the holy place, while Jews centered on Jerusalem). He's telling her that the old geographical boundaries that divided worshipers are about to dissolve. What matters isn't the location or the building, but a genuine, spiritual connection with God that can happen anywhere and everywhere. This was radical news to someone whose entire faith tradition was tied to a specific mountain, and it remains a comfort today: you don't need the perfect place, the right institution, or the ideal circumstances to meet God. Your bedroom, your car, your kitchen table, your moment of crisis are all equally valid places to worship and be heard.
