John 3:6
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
What does John 3:6 mean?
Jesus is drawing a clear distinction between two kinds of existence here. When we're born into this world as humans, we inherit a physical, earthly nature—our bodies, our natural desires, the way we're wired to survive and function in the material world. But when we're spiritually reborn through faith, something fundamentally different happens. We're connected to God's Spirit, and that creates a new kind of life in us that operates on different principles. The point isn't that our bodies or physical lives are bad. Rather, Jesus is saying that purely physical existence, left to itself, can't understand or connect with God. We need this spiritual rebirth, this new life from above, to truly know God and experience the transformation He offers. It's the difference between living only for what we can see and touch, and opening ourselves to a reality that's deeper and more lasting.
