John 3:4
“Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?””
What does John 3:4 mean?
Nicodemus was a respected teacher and leader, so when Jesus told him he needed to be "born again," the question came naturally to him—he was thinking in literal, physical terms. His confusion shows how unexpected and even absurd the idea sounded: how could an adult go back into the womb? This honest bewilderment actually captures something real about spiritual rebirth. It's not something we can accomplish through effort or logic or returning to our past. Jesus was pointing toward something entirely different, something that requires surrendering our usual way of understanding the world.
