John 3:31

He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

What does John 3:31 mean?

Jesus is being described here as someone with a completely different origin and authority than anyone else. While we're all shaped by earthly concerns and limited perspectives, Jesus comes from heaven itself, which means his teaching carries a weight and truth that transcends our usual human understanding. The repetition of "above all" emphasizes just how significant this difference is. This isn't meant to make us feel small, but rather to invite us to trust that his words and way of life point toward something real and eternal, beyond what we can see or figure out on our own.
