John 21:3
“Simon Peter said to them, “I’m going fishing.” They told him, “We are also coming with you.” They immediately went out, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing.”
What does John 21:3 mean?
After Jesus' resurrection, Peter and some of the other disciples return to what they knew before they met him: fishing. Their empty nets that night might feel like a return to emptiness itself, a kind of spiritual drift after everything they've experienced. Yet this ordinary, disappointing moment sets the stage for something remarkable, because Jesus is about to meet them on the shore with breakfast and a restored purpose. Sometimes our fruitless nights, when nothing seems to be working or moving forward, are exactly where Jesus finds us and redirects us toward something better than we had before.
