What does John 20:8 mean?

When John arrived at the empty tomb and saw the grave clothes lying there undisturbed, something shifted inside him. He didn't need to see Jesus risen yet, the way Thomas later would; the evidence of the empty tomb itself became enough to move him from confusion into faith. His belief wasn't based on a full understanding of resurrection or even on seeing Jesus, but on recognizing that something beyond the ordinary had happened. This moment reminds us that faith sometimes grows not from having all the answers, but from being willing to trust what we encounter when our expectations are shattered.
