What does John 20:5 mean?
Peter arrives at the tomb after hearing that Jesus's body is gone, and he bends down to peer inside. What he sees—the burial wrappings left behind—is puzzling rather than conclusive; the linens are there, but the body they were wrapped around is not. His hesitation to step inside the tomb suggests he's caught between confusion and reverence, not yet understanding what has happened, and perhaps unwilling to disturb what feels like a sacred space until he knows more.
