“After eight days again his disciples were inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, the doors being locked, and stood in the middle, and said, “Peace be to you.””
What does John 20:26 mean?
Eight days after the resurrection, the disciples are still gathering behind locked doors, afraid and uncertain. This time Thomas is there with them, and Jesus appears again in that same miraculous way, passing through the locked doors. His first words are the same greeting of peace he offered the previous week, as if to say that his presence and assurance haven't changed, even in their doubt and fear. This moment matters because it shows Jesus meeting the disciples exactly where they are: hiding, confused, needing reassurance. The repetition of "peace" suggests that peace isn't something we find once and keep, but something Jesus keeps offering us, especially when we return to him with our questions and struggles.
