What does John 20:21 mean?

Jesus repeats his gift of peace to his disciples, then explains what comes with it: they are being sent out into the world just as he was sent. This wasn't a casual blessing, but a commission, a calling rooted in the same loving purpose that brought Jesus into human history. When Jesus says the Father sent him, he means with authority, mission, and the full weight of divine purpose behind him. His followers are now entrusted with continuing that work, carrying his message of peace and redemption to others. It's both a profound honor and a real responsibility, held together by the peace he offers to steady them for the journey ahead.
