What does John 18:15 mean?
Peter wasn't alone in following Jesus to his arrest and trial, though what happens next reveals how different their paths would be. The other disciple mentioned here is traditionally understood to be John, the writer of this Gospel, who had enough connection to the high priest's household to walk right into the courtyard where Jesus was being held. While John could move freely in that space because of his acquaintance with someone powerful there, Peter had to wait outside, and when he finally got in, his fear would lead him to deny even knowing Jesus. It's a quiet detail that sets up the contrast between having access and having courage.
