John 17:1
“Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you;”
What does John 17:1 mean?
In this moment, Jesus knows his crucifixion is near, and he speaks directly to God about what's about to happen. He's asking his Father to allow his suffering and death to reveal God's character and power to the world, trusting that through this painful path, God will ultimately be honored. There's a beautiful partnership here: Jesus seeks to glorify God, and he believes that God's glory will shine through what Jesus is about to endure. This prayer invites us to see that even in dark, difficult seasons, God can work in ways that ultimately point people toward his goodness and faithfulness.
