John 16:30
“Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.””
What does John 16:30 mean?
The disciples are expressing a moment of clarity and confidence in Jesus. They've watched him answer questions they hadn't even asked yet and respond to their unspoken doubts, so they conclude he must have complete knowledge, which they understand as something only God possesses. Their belief here is both genuine and incomplete, though, since Jesus will soon be arrested and they'll scatter in fear, doubting everything again. This verse captures something important about faith: it's not always steady or permanent. The disciples are making a true statement about who Jesus is, yet within hours they'll abandon him.
