John 16:13
βHowever when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.β
What does John 16:13 mean?
Jesus is promising his followers that after he returns to heaven, God's Holy Spirit will come to guide them into truth. The Spirit won't operate independently or make things up, but will speak what comes from God himself, pointing people toward what is real and trustworthy. This includes both helping believers understand spiritual truths and revealing what's ahead. For many of us, especially when we're confused or uncertain, this is deeply reassuring. It means we don't have to figure everything out alone or wonder if we're being misled. The Spirit's role is to keep drawing us closer to what is true and to prepare us for what's coming in our lives and in God's plans.
