John 15:4
“Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.”
What does John 15:4 mean?
Jesus uses the picture of a vine and its branches to show us something essential about how our spiritual life actually works. A branch separated from the vine withers and dies, no matter how hard it tries to produce fruit, and we're the same way spiritually, we can't generate genuine growth or goodness on our own. When we stay connected to Jesus through prayer, faith, and openness to his presence, his life flows into us and makes us fruitful in ways we couldn't manage by ourselves. This isn't about earning God's love through performance, it's about recognizing that spiritual health comes from staying rooted in relationship with him, day by day.
