“If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
What does John 15:19 mean?
Jesus is telling his followers that their allegiance to him fundamentally separates them from the world's values and systems. When we genuinely commit to following him, we inevitably clash with cultures built on self-centeredness, materialism, and power without compassion, because those things contradict what Jesus teaches. This doesn't mean Christians should be isolated or hostile toward others, but rather that living by Jesus's values naturally makes us different and sometimes misunderstood. The comfort here is that any rejection or hostility we face isn't random or accidental—Jesus predicted it and chose us anyway, knowing exactly what we were signing up for.
