What does John 15:14 mean?
Jesus is redefining friendship in a radical way here, not as something based on status or feelings alone, but on trust and obedience. When he says "friends," he's speaking tenderly, yet also truthfully: real friendship with him means aligning yourself with what he teaches and asks of you. This isn't cold duty or legalism, but rather the way love actually works, like how a true friend takes seriously what another friend asks of them. He's inviting his disciples (and us) into an intimate relationship where following his way of compassion, honesty, and sacrifice becomes the proof that we genuinely know and trust him.
