What does John 15:12 mean?

Jesus is asking his followers to make love the center of how they treat each other, and he's setting his own love as the standard. He doesn't ask us to love perfectly or without mistakes, but to love the way he does: generously, sacrificially, and without keeping score. This is especially meaningful because Jesus speaks these words right before his arrest and death, showing that his love isn't conditional on whether people deserve it or return it. For anyone struggling to know what following Jesus actually means in daily life, this strips it down to something both simple and challenging: the way we care for each other matters more than rules or performance.
