What does John 13:24 mean?

In this moment, Jesus has just announced that one of his closest friends will betray him, and naturally the disciples are confused and distressed. Peter, always quick to act, catches the eye of John (the disciple leaning closest to Jesus) and urgently asks him to find out who the traitor is. It's a very human response to shocking news, this instinct to get answers and understand what's happening. What's striking here is Peter's directness and his assumption that John, being right there beside Jesus, might be able to get the information more easily than others could. This small moment shows us how the disciples still didn't fully grasp what Jesus was telling them, but it also shows their loyalty and concern, even if their understanding was limited.
