What does John 12:48 mean?
Jesus is describing what happens when people refuse to listen to his message and turn away from him. He's not saying he personally hunts people down to punish them, but rather that his own words become the standard by which life is measured. When we reject truth, we're choosing a different path, and eventually we have to face the reality of that choice. This can feel heavy if you're struggling with faith, but it's also meant to clarify something important: Jesus isn't hidden or ambiguous about what he offers. His words are clear, available, and honest about who he is. The judgment isn't arbitrary or hidden away, it comes from the very teachings people heard and understood. There's a kind of mercy in that clarity, even if it's also a serious invitation to pay attention.
