What does John 12:43 mean?
This verse captures something painfully human: the desire to be seen and approved by the people around us can actually pull us away from what matters most. In context, Jesus is speaking about religious leaders who perform their faith publicly but won't admit they believe in him, because they're afraid of being cast out by their peers and losing their status. It's not that wanting approval is automatically wrong, but when it becomes our primary motivation, it crowds out everything else, including our relationship with God. The tragedy here is choosing the temporary comfort of human admiration over something far deeper and more lasting. Many of us wrestle with this same tension, whether we're at work, in our families, or online, and recognizing it is the first step toward reordering what we truly value.
