John 11:9
“Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.”
What does John 11:9 mean?
Jesus is using the rhythm of day and night as a picture of how we find our way through life. When it's light, you can see where you're going and avoid obstacles, but darkness leaves you vulnerable to tripping and getting lost. He's saying that as long as we're walking in the light (following God's guidance and truth), we won't stumble spiritually, even if the path ahead feels uncertain. This reassurance comes right before Jesus decides to go toward his friend Lazarus, who has died, so he's really speaking about trust: when you're aligned with God's purposes, you can move forward with confidence even in difficult circumstances.
