What does John 11:10 mean?

When we walk in darkness without any light to guide us, we naturally stumble and lose our way. Jesus is speaking here about something deeper than physical darkness: he's talking about living without spiritual direction or truth. If we try to navigate life based on confusion, denial, or disconnection from God, we'll make poor choices and hurt ourselves, just as someone literally walking in the dark would trip and fall. The point isn't that God is punishing us for being lost, but that living without his guidance leaves us vulnerable and disoriented. This comes right after Jesus says he is "the light of the world," so he's offering himself as the sure ground we need to walk safely.
